Volunteer Central is your portal to the many exciting volunteer opportunities that await you and your family here at Calvary. It is the one place that you can quickly access all the information you'll need to discover where you can volunteer and become involved here at the church. Time is a valuable resource to God and it is important that we invest it wisely. Volunteer Central is designed to do just that. Putting you in touch with ministry leaders and providing you with important information that will help you find the right fit.

Listed below is a sample of the many opportunities for you and your family here at Calvary. Greeters

Greeters provide a first impression to those entering the church building. Obligations include distribution of bulletins, welcoming at the door, opening the doors, giving direction to guests, providing a warm atmosphere. Greeters are scheduled for one month on five months off.

Ushers

Ushers serve as hosts and hostesses to the congregation on Sunday morning. Duties include hand shaking and bulletin distribution, handing out guest packets during our welcome time, collecting the offering, finding seating for people and directing to fill in seating for center areas, completing odd job requests to facilitate the needs of a service. Ushers are scheduled one week on two off for one service.

Welcome Centre

The Welcome Centre is a one stop shop for guest welcome and event registration. Responsibilities include, providing a warm reception, distribution of gifts to our guests, collecting payment and information to sign people up for events, knowledge of church layout and coming events, collecting tithes and offerings.

Media Team

Media Ministry includes EasyWorship (service lyrics), camera operators, and web-casting, through to webmasters and tech services. There are many ministry opportunities for a variety of interests and experience levels as well as training and intern opportunities. We also provide CD’s and DVD’s duplication of messages delivered at Calvary. Operators are scheduled in 1 of 3 weeks, and once a month for EasyWorship.

Hospitality Teams

These teams organize and coordinate Sunday receptions (refreshments) and special events serving the food and drink needs of members and their guests throughout the year. This ministry helps connect people practically to our family. Responsibilities include, set-up, cleanup of events, coffee/beverage prep, and snack displays. Hospitality members are scheduled 1 in 4 weeks.

Care Ministry

Calvary cares about the people in our congregation and community. When problems or tragedies occur, the care-giving team provides practical help and support to help people in need.

BIGtime Kid's Ministry
Hey Kids... What time is it? It's BIGTIME!

BIGtime is a child-targeted kid’s ministry where the Bible is creatively taught and expressed, where its truths are presented in relevant ways, where shepherding kids is intentional, where kids are safe to be who they are and ask questions, and where discovering God’s truth is fun.
BIGtime Nursery

The BIGtime Nursery is Calvary’s Ministry for infants and preschoolers ages 0 – 24 months, where the littlest of our congregation are watched over, held and loved. The Nursery is also staffed for most church special events.

BIGtime - mid-week kids' program
From September through April kids grades K-5 can register to be a part of our BIGtime mid-week programs where they will experience games, crafts, snacks, music, and more.  We have two mid-week programs designed for grade K-3 and grades 4-5.  These programs run on Wednesday nights from 6:30pm-8pm.
BIGTIME Halloween Fair

The BIGtime Halloween Fair happens every October 31. We strive to give parents and kids alike an alternative to Halloween and the traditional door-to-door candy collecting. You don’t have to wonder where the candy is coming from at BIGtime Fair. It is a family event with inflatable jumping areas, carnival-style games, tons of give-aways, and of course food. It is an event that the whole family can enjoy and rest assured knowing that it is safe, fun and a great way to get to know others in this community. Opportunities for prep and planning, set-up/ tear-down and a number of other areas are available. 

BIGtime Vacation Bible School

BIGtime VBS is a fantastic week-long day camp where kids experience loud and lively main sessions before traveling in small “crews” to different stations all over the church. These stations coincide with the theme of the day through crafts, games, movies, expeditions, skits, snacks, and more. Each year is a new theme and the church is decked out to the nines to make sure the kids truly experience learning about God. Opportunities for prep and planning, set-up/ tear-down and a number of other VBS area are available.

Route Youth Ministries

Route happens every Sunday night at 6 pm. Route ministers to juniors & seniors, grades 6-12 through music, drama and dance, and relevant messages. Every Sunday morning after praise and worship in the 9am & 11 am services Route presents Route 67; a class for grades 6 & 7 training and equipping young men and women in biblical truths and principles to help develop champions. Volunteer opportunities are available on various levels.

Outlet Young Adults Ministry

Outlet is a group designed especially for the college and career age group. Outlet meets every Sunday night at 8 pm. A typical Outlet night has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, great music and worship, a relevant message, and time to relax, chat and have a snack.

Small Groups

Small Groups are Calvary's small groups (about 6-12 people) that usually meet in a home to discuss the Bible, pray together and have a coffee. There are many different kinds of groups at different times and locations, suitable for all. Some reflect more of a special interest group like drama or music or a specific time of life, like our Mom's and Babies or men and women's groups. Whatever you are looking for there is something for everyone. Opportunities to lead and assist are available with new or existing groups. 

Generations Family Life Ministries

Generations Family Ministries exists to provide an environment that fosters explosive growth and passion for Christ in a creative, caring, and credible way. With a commitment to excellence in equipping the generations, we will strengthen the family through inspired biblical training and diverse ministry opportunities. Through Family Life and Married Life Ministries, Generations seeks to effectively meet the needs of people through a personal knowledge of Christ and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Through annual conferences and special events the capacity for development in Christian faith and community will increase. Opportunities for team ministry, event prep and planning, set-up/ tear-down and a number of other areas are available throughout the year.

Calvary Men

Calvary's ministry to men is designed to bring the men of Calvary into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ and each other. Through various ministry initiatives men are encouraged to take Jesus Christ with them into their homes, workplaces, schools and colleges. Every Monday, Calvary's men's small group, "Power Hour" teaches the men of Calvary to become servant-leaders, training them to disciple young/ new Christians. Opportunities for event prep and planning, set-up/ tear-down and a number of other areas are available.

Calvary Women

Calvary's ministry to women is designed to inspire and equip the women of Calvary to grow in their faith and live dynamic, fulfilling lives that reflect God’s presence. Opportunities for event prep and planning, set-up/ tear-down and a number of other areas are available.

Challenger's Seniors' Ministry

Challenger’s are a vibrant group of seniors who meet to deepen their walk with God and enjoy one another’s company. Every week, the Challengers meet to enjoy a light lunch and lively conversation. Afterwards, they have carpet bowling, singing, films or guest speakers, devotions and worship. From time to time, the Challengers enjoy events like their annual Christmas party, picnics, or day trips. 

Mandarin Ministries

The Mandarin ministry at Calvary started their first service on Easter Sunday in April 2003. The Calvary Mandarin congregation meets in the Schroeder Hall every Sunday. Service starts at 9:15 am and concludes with refreshment and fellowship following the service. This service is conducted entirely in Mandarin except for the sermon, which is sometimes preached in English and translated into Mandarin. There are many areas for volunteer involvement from ushers/ greeters to the worship team... from set up/ tear down to the hospitality ministry. Pastor Mary would love to have you join the team as this thriving congregation continues to grow.

FamilyFest Community Fair

Hundreds of people each summer gather from the community to our Annual FREE Community Fair. With plenty of entertainment, games, bouncing castles, give-aways, face painting, and balloon twisting, there is something for everyone. Our Taste of the Nations Food tent offers a variety of cuisine from around the world and celebrates the cultural richness that is represented in our community. Volunteers are always needed in planning, set-up/ tear-down, supervising events, and serving the community.

Set up & Tear Down Teams

Throughout the year there are many occasions at Calvary where set up and tear down is required as we prepare for services, conferences, banquets, and special ministry events. Service opportunities are always available in this area; teams are assembled as events are prepared for and concluded. 

Performing Arts Ministry

The arts are a powerful tool to communicate the hope of Jesus Christ. At Calvary we utilize various forms of drama, dance (from ballet to jazz to hip-hip and musical sign language) and music. We are always expanding and building our arts team for weekly ministry in our service and also for special holiday events. If you have experience in acting, directing/producing, costume, or make-up and are interested in becoming involved, contact us today. There are opportunities for involvement for everyone with various skill levels.

Production Team

This ministry works in conjunction with the Performing Arts team to develop costumes and props and creative theming for various productions and illustrated sermons throughout the year. This ministry seeks to enhance message series, seasonal themes, and special events. 

Prayer Ministry

“Seek the peace of the city…and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace you will have peace.” Jeremiah 29:7 Ongoing opportunities are available to serve on the Calvary prayer chain and Concert of Prayer events.

Short Term Missions

Our congregation takes seriously God’s mandate to take the gospel to all people groups. The church believes that all Christians should spread the Good News of Christ worldwide, either as a “sent one” or a “sender.” Calvary supports full-time workers overseas and in North America. Short-term mission opportunities are available to experience ministry and service abroad.

Visitation Team

This team is an extension of Calvary's Care Ministry and visits home and hospitals to demonstrate love and concern for those who are ill or dealing with other difficult situations. 

Communications and Marketing
Communicating all of the exciting things God is doing here at Calvary is very important. Whether it's through the promotional ads or updating the News Feed on The City, updating our social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) or our monthly CalvaryLife Card, there are opportunities for those with design and production experience, as well as those who are ready to learn. With a full calendar of exciting seasonal and special events, there is always a need for the development of promotional material to help support these ministry efforts.
First Contact Team

Each week freshly baked bread, packaged, and delivered to every guest at Calvary Christian Church. This brief visit along with a special guest letter help those new among us make a connection with the church.

Helps Ministry

Volunteer opportunities are always available in the Calvary Helps ministry. Examples of available areas of ministry are as follows: Exterior landscaping and gardening. General maintenance (vacuuming, cleaning, garbage removal, cleaning reception areas, kitchen, bathroom, etc).

Teaching & Training

There is always teaching and training taking place at Calvary equipping men, women and children to be fully committed disciples of Jesus Christ. From seminars and departmental training to our ongoing StartingPoint class or future mid-week discipleship and leadership teaching. We are always in need of gifted teachers who are committed members of Calvary!

Street Outreach Team
Calvary's Outreach Service Teams prepare food each week to be served every Tuesday evening with Nightshift Ministries to our street friends in the Whalley area of Surrey, BC. Our Street Service Team is also responsible for street ministry the first Tuesday night of the month. Opportunities in food prep, bread pick up and delivery, and street service are available.
